American Axle And Manufacturing Sucks Customer Reviews and Feedback
American Axle & Manufacturing, Inc. (AAM), headquartered in Detroit, Michigan, is a manufacturer of automobile driveline and drivetrain components and systems.
An angry former employee of American Axle & Manufacturing, Inc. shared his experience with the company on Indeed in September 2020:
"It feels like jail. We feel like slaves. They change our jobs and cut our pay but let die setter hold of the railings and give us attitude for needing adjustments. They can't even cover our lunch break and have people come back from break with plates all over the floor and alarms going off. Again. Nice example."

They change our jobs and cut our pay but let diesetter hold of the railings and give us attitude for needing adjustments. Anonymous (Former Employee) says"Most of the workers are nasty white trash. They are a bunch of racists. They are very disrespectful towards the cleaning crew. They allow white employees do whatever they want and falsely accuse blacks if breaking policies."
Melting Supervisor (Former Employee) says"They made promises to me that were never kept. Management does not filter information down and there was no environmental changes for the better. All talk and no action. They have systemic racism throughout the company and are not held accountable. The insurance. No support because of personal relationships."
End Cover Assembly (Former Employee) says"Unrewarding place to work, people are not friendly and make it very hard to fit in or even like what you do. In training you try your best to learn and supervisors nit pick which in turn makes you leave, you go in usually in groups of 10 out of that 1 person will stay, the rest quit or get fired within the first 5 days.you don't take breaks with your department, they're alone and never at the same time if you get one at all."
Finisher/Laborer (Current Employee) says"The job is not what it seems, work environment is awful, and people in charge seem to only care about the product being made and not the people they have employeed"
Pattern clerk (Former Employee) says"They take no accountability for things that happen in there plant as an employee if your injured your gone, and they blame you and try too snake out of paying an injured employee"
Press Operator/Forklift Operator (Former Employee) says"This company is a sad excuse for a company absolutely no flexibility whatsoever working 12 hours a week paid is not good no time off no vacation just all-around a horrible job and a horrible company"
Manufacturing Technician (Former Employee) says"No job security, no flexibility, not a very understanding group of folks, especially upper management, operational management & HR. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME HERE !"
Engineer (Former Employee) says"AAM’s Leadership is not trustworthy / The company values are only on paper / The good olds boys club will prevail / No technology / Toxic work environment"
CNC Machinist (Current Employee) says"From tool and die perspective, it is poor pay, the atmosphere is no longer nice to work in, we were told we would have a skilled trades increase in pay. The profit sharing is pathetic, HR depends on the associates to take care of there job as well."
Operator (Former Employee) says"The union is not working for the employees just taking their money and throwing them to the Companies HR wolves. Low Wages, Hard Heavy Work, Work Every Single Day of your life like a machine. RIDICULOUS"
Machine Operator (Former Employee) says"American axle is a complete joke 1) the Human Resources Do Not do their job at all. Instead a outside company that gives you the run around does 2) the hours are only good if you have no life 19 days straight and 2 days off if you're lucky. 3) management does not know how to do their job like scheduling"
Engineering (Former Employee) says"Corporate level is the headquarter of unqualified, irresponsible, phony BULLIES. Company suffers from poor productivity, lack motivation , morale, poor communication and the creation/spread of gossip. AAM is filled with Engineers who are completely void of extensive skill or knowledge in any Engineering discipline."
Heavy Assembler /Job setter (Former Employee) says"After 3.5 years here they ruined my life. They put me in long hours. Treated me poorly. Then fired me when I had a break down cause my mind couldn't handle it any more."
Quality Inspector (Former Employee) says"This company gives you almost no days off. They do not respect their employees. They do not give resources to let the operators do their job, correctly. They also do not care if your pay is incorrect. All they are worried about is bodies."
Operator (Former Employee) says"Management doesn't care about it's workers what-so-ever. Be prepared to run a 2 person job by yourself for days, weeks, months, maybe years, at a time without a single thanks from management. For your first year you will have 0 vacation days. Non-safe work environments are encouraged whenever production is behind. If you call in too much even if you have a doctor's note eventually they'll fire you even if the reason you missed was because you died. I knew a woman they tried to fire for missing work to take care of her son who had a seizure. -50 degree weather? No excuse. The union is absolutely useless and takes bribes from upper management. There are no promotions at all besides, Jobsetter (a $1) raise. Don't worry though, they'll give you an extra $.10 per year! It all comes at the low price of selling your soul and never seeing loved ones again. This job would be okay if they didn't exclusively hire psychopathic incompetent fools for management. Would NEVER recommend."
Hot Side Quality (Current Employee) says"The best way to word it is “everyone is here for a reason”. Once you pass the hair test they don’t do random drug tests or they’d lose 90% of the employees. Both shifts are an open opportunity for both dope heads & illegal MexicansNonePoor Management, poor pay, poor benefits"
Factory Worker (Former Employee) says"It was a decent experience i just wished I had more time to work there. But overall I had a nice time and I enjoyed the employees that I worked with and everyone was nice"
LABORER (Current Employee) says"Aweful place to work. Horrible benefits. Pay depends on who you are and who you are friends with. Advancement is also on who youre friends with and not your qualifications. They do whatever they want to secure the buddy system. Allow some to be lazy and do nothing but expect others to kill themselves daily from start to finish. Pay does not go by your job performance or your knowledge. Anyone still here is trying to get out!! Do yourself a favor and dont get yourself trapped here!! People dont leave after 20 some years for nothing!!!!They might give you free cake or a shirtEverything about this place is aweful"
